A Man Escaped (Un condamne a mort s'est echappe ou Le vent souffle ou il veut)

Lyon under German occupation in the year 1943. Lieutenant Fontaine is arrested on suspicion of espionage, and taken to Fort Montluc, a prison that is known for its high security. Determined to escape, he gets hold of a spoon and keeps scraping a tunnel... Robert Bresson, who once weas a prisoner of the German army himself, wrote the script and directed this movie based on certain personal notes. The film was eventually shot at Fort Montluc, and begins with a handwritten message reading "This story is true." The breakout is the desperate lieutenant's only hope, and he thoroughly dedicates his time in jail to elaborating his big plan. The movie vividly reflects the tense atmosphere to illustrate one man's simple but powerful resistance.
