The princess of Shirasagi Castle (Himeji Castle), who enjoys watching the foolish businesses of people in the lower world from above, falls in (forbidden) love with Zushonosuke (Ichikawa Ebizo), a handsome young falconer who wandered in from the human world. When I saw Bando Tamasaburo for the very first time in this piece back when I was an elementary school student, he was wrapped in a sensual sort of light, and looked like a truly "otherworldly" creature that seemed to be hovering elegantly across the stage. He once commented on the mysteriously fantastic world of Izumi Kyoka that it was a "concrete yet at once abstract depiction of manly spirit in female guise," and when he flirts in a comical way with princess Kame Hime (Nakamura Kantaro), this makes the experience twice as delicious. I for one will never get bored watching him and giving the occasional sigh.
